This individual charged my mother in law at least $12,065 for over at least 3 separate service calls to clear clogged toilet drains twice and retrofit about 35' of drain pipe from cast iron to PVC in an accessible crawlspace. This rate is excessive and predatory. We feel he took advantage of an elderly person who could not compare his work to that of local fair rates. I personally met Tommy Seargent as the legal agent of my mother in law for this property. Tommy had difficulty showing up on the dates and times scheduled and on one occasion failed to procure a commonly available part (an air admittance valve readily available from local box stores) yet felt he needed to show up on site to exclaim he could not obtain it and could not perform the work that day. He claims he charges $1,600 a fixture and did 11 fixtures. The whole home does not contain that many fixtures, even so, the piping he replaced only covers 2 fixtures. The average rate for a plumber in Fayetteville, AR is between $75-125 an hour. Given the high-end of that rate he would have had to do approximately 96 hours worth of work for what he charged. Clearing 2 toilet lines and replacing approximately 35' of drain line does not warrant that rate. He was onsite less than 6 hours the day of the cast iron pipe replacement, its been reported he spent less than 4 hours each time he cleared a line. At best he was onsite 14 hours. $12,065 / 14 hours of work = $861/hr. Tommy quoted $6-8k to replace cast iron pipe with PVC and was on-site for about 4-6 hours. He was days late from his original scheduling. Only about 30-40' of pipe was replaced, not the entire homes pipe as the price would represent. The rate he charged was excessive. Tommy has made no attempts to remediate the issue and has threatened myself and my family with defamation if I reported his unethical fees to any agency with which I could leave a review for his service.
