I went to Poudre Valley Eyecare for a recent eye exam to renew my driver’s license online. I had no issues with my eyes otherwise. I paid $95.00 for the basic exam, but the doctor aggressively pushed a full exam, stating my new prescription was very different from the glasses I was wearing and could see well with. He stated it would take a week or so for my “brain to adjust to the new lenses.” The prescription was very wrong and I couldn’t see to drive. I went back and he tried to convince me the problem was with my eyes and not the bad prescription. I didn’t have insurance and was told that they couldn’t tell me the cost of a full exam until it was done. They would not give me a good faith estimate. The doctor wanted me to return when I turned 65 and my insurance went into effect so he could bill them. The second prescription he wrote was also wrong and I still couldn’t see to drive. I complained and the owner of the business called me. He asked what he could do to “make it right.” When I told him I wanted the $95.00 refunded he refused, stating I should follow the doctor’s advice and come back for the full eye exam . I was already out $600.00, including the eye exam and a pair of glasses that were useless. I wasn’t going to spend another dime with them. He made excuses for the doctor's poor exam, and even stated he didn’t believe I could see as well as I could with the glasses I’d been wearing. He argued and spoke over me, so I hung up. I ended up going to a different eyecare provider to get an accurate prescription that I can see with. I WOULD NOT recommend Poudre Valley Eyecare, they DO NOT guarantee their work. They boast of belonging to the American Optometric Association and Colorado Optometric Association. When I contacted those organizations to file a complaint I was informed they are member only organizations and do not have any regulatory control over optometrists. I was provided links to file a complaint with the State Board of Optometry.
