Company Description
Pagosa Peak Open School is an intentionally small and intimate K-6 public school, chartered through the Archuleta School District and governed by an independent, volunteer board of directors.
We are located in Pagosa Springs, Colorado — nestled below the rugged San Juan Mountains at an altitude of 7000 feet and surrounded by 3 million acres of San Juan National Forest, rivers, lakes, mineral hot springs, and abundant wildlife — amenities that help create an outdoor recreational paradise. Area attractions include Wolf Creek Ski Area, known for the “Most Snow in Colorado”, and a 27-hole championship golf course. Pagosa Springs serves as the county seat for Archuleta County, with a county-wide population of about 12,500 people.
The founding board spent two years visiting 17 innovative schools in Colorado and New Mexico, and we have chosen to model our educational program and school culture on our favorite three schools: Jefferson County Open School, Santa Fe School for the Arts & Sciences, and Crestone Charter School.
Our new School Director, Angela Reali Crossland, joined us in 2019, and has been leading our Project and Place-based school toward excellence in academic achievement and student engagement. We are currently getting ready for our fourth year and expansion into 7th grade. We are enrolling K-7 for the 2020-2021 school year.
