Company Description
The Verde Valley Senior Center on 6th and Cherry St. in Cottonwood is a lifeline for hundreds of elderly residents throughout the Verde Valley
many of whom are veterans. The senior hunger crisis is real! Statistics taken early in the year 2014 show that approximately 160,000 senior citizens in Arizona were struggling with hunger. In 2014, the Senior Center served approximately 58,000 hot, nutritious lunches to our local senior citizens. Hundreds of seniors residing in the Verde Valley received meals and other social services through our vital and worthwhile programs and each year more and more seniors rely on the Center for services. Today in America, 1 out of every 6 seniors - an astonishing 5 Million people - are at risk of hunger. The Meals-On-Wheels program for home-bound seniors and our community dining at the Center ensures that at least one good, hot, nutritious meal is provided daily and also gives our clients an opportunity to socialize and interact with another human being. Loneliness, helplessness and boredom are leading problems among the elderly. Our well-trained volunteers are also able to recognize and report unacceptable living conditions, safety or health issues, or the possibility of abuse and neglect of a vulnerable adult when delivering to a home-bound elderly individual. The Center does receive funding state programs like NACOG
however, these funds only cover a small portion (roughly $2.53 per meal) of our cost to purchase food, prepare meals, package the home-delivered meals and deliver them to over 3,200 individuals monthly. Therefore, our efforts are hugely dependent on the individual contributions we receive from clients and more importantly, the donations we receive from individuals and organizations. We are so grateful for the support we receive and encourage everyone to consider assisting us in continuing this worthwhile and essential cause.
