Founded 1979, proud to be the largest locally-owned community bank in SWMO. It began in Carthage, MO, when Garry Denney and seven other people decided to start a new bank. The first branch opened in June 1979 with one million dollars in assets. Over the years SMB expanded into Joplin, Neosho, Jasper, and Oronogo.
