Mountain Home began as a post office at a stage stop named "Rattlesnake Station" on the Overland Trail located about 7 miles east of the present-day city. When the Oregon Short Line Railroad was completed, the city was moved to its present site in 1883. Mountain Home is just 40 miles southeast of Boise and is the home to nearby Mountain Home Air Force Base. For a little community, Mountain Home has it all. Friendly people, good schools, caring churches and helpful and friendly business people. For people who enjoy the Western lifestyle, it is surrounded by the best recreation and sightseeing that any city of its size in the nation has to offer.
